Summary:
The General Surgeon will be responsible for performing general surgical operations, outpatient ambulatory surgical procedures, and outpatient general surgery consultations for new and established patients. The general surgeon is expected to follow each patient through the full continuum of care to include Admissions, discharges, performing histories and physicals, assisting in the full coordination of diagnostic tests and procedures prior to surgery, education and counseling of the patient and family members. Under the general supervision of the CEO or CMO and in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team and the OR Department (non-physician) manager the General Surgeon develops, implements, and evaluates the medical practice delivery model in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws / Rules and Regulations of Newport Hospital & Health Services. The General Surgeon is accountable for the performance of the surgical medical group, setting the tone for evidence-based, collaborative care, and the outcomes driven by patient experience. The General Surgeon assures delivery of quality services to all surgical patients at Newport Hospital & Health Services.

24 bed Rural Community Hospital - Trauma Level IV
15 providers Rural Health Clinic
72 bed, high level care, Advanced Assisted Living Facility
42 apartment; low-moderate care level Assisted Living Facility

Education Background and Experience
Minimum Education:
Degree in Medicine from an Accredited Medical School
Required Licensure / Certifications:
Active Washington State Medical License and DEA
Board Certification/Board eligible in General Surgery
Required
Experience:
5 years of residency training in General Surgery
ACLS certification
Preferred
Qualifications:
3 years of experience practicing as General Surgeon
Wound Care & ATLS preferred

Essential Job Functions
Provides medical direction for the healthcare activities of the Surgery Department.
Provides medical care services to patients in the Surgical Department.
The General Surgeon is available for sufficient periods of time to provide medical direction, medical care services, consultation, assist with medical emergencies, and patient referral.
Follow established surgical techniques during surgery.
Oversee all treatments prior to and post-surgery and identify associated risks.
Collaborates with the department manager on the integration of medical services into Newport Hospital's overall comprehensive services.
Oversee Anesthesia Services
Advises the department manager on purchase of medical equipment.
Leads in collaboration with the department manager, planning for the development of new surgical programs or services and evaluation of current services.
Reviews patient charts focusing on quality of care and appropriate and timely documentation.
Review and signoff on policies and procedures of the department with the manager and evaluates, enforces, and improves upon policies.
